The Network Group for Composites in Construction (NGCC) is keen to develop awareness among young engineers of the importance and potential of research in FRP advancing structural engineering. ECR 2015, held during Advanced Composites in Construction (ACIC) Conference 2015, provides a unique platform for research students to showcase their work and exchange ideas with their peers and key academic and industry leaders. When submitting their ACIC paper for peer-review, early career researchers who are planning to present their paper at the ACIC 2015 conference should indicate that they also wish to apply for the ECR 2015 competition and submit a project synopsis as detailed below. The ACIC 2015 Organising Committee will then select particular applicants with accepted papers to present their research during a special poster session at ACIC 2015 in Cambridge (this would be in addition to giving an oral presentation during the main conference session).
Who is this aimed at?
The competition is aimed at the next generation of structural engineers who are enthusiastic about FRP structural engineering and ready to make their mark. By holding the event as part of the ACIC conference, this provides a great networking opportunity with industry professionals and is an excellent addition to your CV. ECR 2015 is open to those with less than five years (at the date of the conference) full time, or equivalent, research experience in FRP structural engineering. Delegates may be students registered for research degrees, employees of research organisations or those working in practice.
Entry requirements
When submitting their ACIC paper for review, applicants must also submit an application form and short project synopsis (maximum of 1 page A4 in 10pt font). The synopsis should include:
- name
- research organisation
- stage of research (e.g. 2nd year PhD student)
- title of ACIC conference paper
- project title
- project objectives and goals
- brief description
- potential for application of results
- funding body (if appropriate)
Delegates must be prepared, if selected, to present their project in poster form at the ACIC conference during a special session on Wednesday 9th September 2015. The winner will be voted by delegates attending the conference and the prize awarded during the conference dinner on 10th September.
Researcher poster presentations
Researchers will be notified in May 2015 if their paper has been accepted for presentation during the ACIC conference and also whether they have been chosen to make an additional poster presentation.
Prizes
The winning early career researcher will receive a cash prize of £250 and one year’s free individual membership to NGCC. Runner up will receive a year’s free membership to NGCC.
Cost
ECR 2015 is taking place as part of the Advanced Composites in Construction conference and applicants must register for must register for the conference in the normal way.
