ACIC 2009 - University of Edinburgh

Building on the success of the previous 3 Advanced Composites in Construction conferences, ACIC 09 took place at Edinburgh University. Over 75 delegates from across the globe ) attended this event.

The particular strength of ACIC lies in the unique mix of delegates which includes the whole supply chain from clients, contractors and designers to material suppliers, manufacturers and academics. This leads to extremely lively and useful discussions.

At ACIC 09 a larger number of new case studies than at previous conferences were presented, demonstrating the increasing use of FRP composites in construction. Projects included Network Rail’s FRP rail overbridges, the highway Agency’s FRP decking for road bridges, Canadian experience using FRP reinforcement for concrete and applications of FRP in building structures. The conference also looked at the barriers and opportunities for the use of FRP in construction.

Researchers active in the field presented work on a wide range of topics from the dynamics of all-FRP bridges, the use of FRP stay-in-place formwork, connection methods for FRP materials and FRP strengthening for concrete, masonry, timber and steel structures.

Alongside the 3-day conference ran an exhibition and poster presentation area. This enabled industry and academia alike to present new innovations, and provided a forum for networking and exchange of ideas and concepts.

ACIC 2009 was organised in conjunction with the University of Edinburgh.
