Matteo di Benedetti has worked extensively on projects related to structural health monitoring (SHM) of civil structures. In his M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, he developed an automated algorithm for continuous modal analysis of a soccer stadium, and then, in his Ph.D., he exploited acoustic emission technology in order to identify damage and to assess structural performance in buildings and civil infrastructures.

Matteo has gained experience in structural reliability, fracture mechanics, structural dynamics and corrosion engineering along with hands-on experimental skills such as mechanical and electrochemical testing, nondestructive evaluation techniques, and in situ load testing. As a Teaching Assistant at The University of Sheffield, he has helped in delivering three modules (Structural Dynamic, Advanced Concrete Design, and Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites in Construction), whilst his current research focuses in the application of digital image correlation (DIC) to FRP-RC to study shear behaviour and deflection.
